ALAS CEO Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga Represents Coastside in Washington D.C.

Silicon Valley Latino is proud to celebrate the continued inspiring leadership of our Advisory Board member, Dr. Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga, as she champions the mission of Ayudando Latinos A Soñar (ALAS) on a national stage. On the first Friday of 2025, Belinda had the honor of representing ALAS in the heart of Washington, D.C., bringing the voices, stories, and dreams of farmworker families and the Coastside community to the forefront of national conversations.

“2025 is our year to rise—united, grounded in our values, and fighting for the dignity of every child and family in America,” Belinda shared, radiating the passion and determination that have become hallmarks of her leadership.

Her visit was marked by powerful moments with key leaders and allies, beginning with Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, whose advocacy and fearless love for justice were an inspiration. Belinda witnessed Senator Adam D. Schiff being sworn in as California’s next senator and was moved by his commitment to advancing ALAS’s dream of bringing 555 Kelly—affordable farmworker housing—to fruition. Coastside Congressman Sam Liccardo also reaffirmed his promise to protect immigrant families, an issue at the heart of ALAS’s mission, while Senator Alex Padilla expressed his steadfast support for mental health and farmworker rights.

The day ended on a deeply personal note as Belinda connected with Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz. His journey from the son of farmworkers to a 13-year veteran of Congress served as a powerful reminder of what is possible when opportunity meets determination.

Throughout her time in Washington, Belinda also reflected on the unwavering support of Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo, who has walked alongside ALAS, not just as an advocate but as a leader who truly sees the community she serves.

This trip underscored the power of collective action and the importance of community-driven advocacy. “Familia let’s keep standing together, with all the love in our hearts and the courage that this moment demands,” Belinda urged. “When we believe in our collective people power, anything is possible.”
