KPLA’s LatinX Heritage Awards and Scholarship Banquet
On October 11, 2019, Kaiser Permanente Latino Association (KPLA) hosted their 28th Annual LatinX Heritage Awards and Scholarship Banquet at Scott’s Restaurant in Oakland. This year’s theme was dedicated to La Mujer – an ode to Latinas/LatinXs making immense contributions to Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity. The remarkable Ysabel Duron, Founder/President of The Latino Cancer Institute was the evening’s keynote speaker who delivered a powerful message on overcoming adversity in her career as a Latina journalist and transforming her cancer experience to address cancer in the LatinX population at the national level.
KPLA awarded scholarships to over 15 students who demonstrate through their activities in school, in the community, or in the face of unusual circumstances – an aspiration to address health disparities in the LatinX Community and/or support the development of LatinX Health Care leaders. KPLA also recognized over 20 physicians, clinicians and employees in two categories; Signature and Visión con Pasión Awards. The Signature awards are given to individuals that have gone above and beyond to break ground, advance, champion and care for our LatinX and diverse population and workforce. The Visión con Pasión Awards are given to bilingual, bi-cultural physicians and clinicians who inspires, promotes, and models cultural sensitivity amongst providers and staff in the health care setting. Both awards are selected by the KPLA Regional Executive Board and vetted by their respective leaders.
KPLA understands that saying Thank You goes a long way, and doing it with a little flavor, style, and authenticity makes it that much more meaningful. KPLA’s LatinX Heritage Awards and Scholarship Banquet is meant to say, as a familia, that KPLA appreciates, and celebrates the efforts of each awardee for making Kaiser Permanente a best place to work and receive quality care.
