Ethics & Correction Policy

SILICON VALLEY LATINO Ethics & Correction Policy svlatino.com | Last updated: July 2026

Silicon Valley Latino (SVL) is an Emmy-nominated independent Latino media company founded in 2011 and based in Silicon Valley, California. We are committed to producing original, fact-based journalism that celebrates Latino excellence, names hard truths, and calls our community to action.

This policy governs how SVL gathers, verifies, publishes, and corrects information across all of our editorial platforms, including svlatino.com, our newsletters, social media channels, and YouTube.

01 · Our Editorial Mission

SVL exists to make the invisible visible, to tell the stories of Latino professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and advocates whose work shapes the San Francisco Bay Area, California and beyond. Our editorial mission is guided by the following principles:

  • We celebrate Latino excellence with pride and name hard truths with clarity.
  • We are advocacy-forward and community-first. Our journalism serves the community, not advertisers or political interests.
  • We publish original, fact-based content grounded in sourced reporting and verified information.
  • We are culturally rooted. We tell stories from within our community, not about it from the outside.
  • We never publish from a place of victimhood or rage. We publish with defiance and dignity.

02 · Editorial Independence

SVL's editorial decisions are made independently by our editorial team. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, agency clients, or outside funders.

Cultura Ambassador Selection

SVL independently selects all Cultura Ambassadors — the Latino professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders featured in our editorial profiles. Every Cultura Ambassador begins with an invitation from SVL's editorial team, based on the subject's community impact, professional achievement, and alignment with SVL's mission.

Once invited, Cultura Ambassadors may purchase a membership that formalizes their relationship with SVL and provides community recognition, promotion, and amplification benefits — including their editorial feature, social media promotion, and access to SVL's network.

SVL's editorial decisions are never initiated by a purchase request. The invitation always comes first.

Agency Clients

The SVL Agency, SVL's full-service creative agency, serves corporate clients including technology companies, healthcare organizations, small businesses and nonprofits. These client relationships do not influence SVL's editorial decisions. SVL's newsroom operates independently of its agency business. No agency client receives preferential editorial coverage as a result of their business relationship with The SVL Agency.

Sponsorships & Underwriting

SVL may accept sponsorships or underwriting support for specific editorial series or programs. When a story or series is sponsored or underwritten, SVL discloses this clearly — including in audio articles, where the sponsoring organization is identified at the opening of the audio. Sponsors have no influence over the editorial content of the stories or series they support.

03 · Reporting & Sourcing Standards

SVL is committed to accuracy in all published content. Our sourcing standards are as follows:

  • Every factual claim published by SVL must be supported by at least one direct source — either the subject of the story, a named third party, or a verified published record.
  • Additional supporting sources are included wherever available to strengthen the accuracy and context of our reporting.
  • Data, statistics, and research cited in SVL articles are attributed to their original source with sufficient information for readers to verify the information independently.
  • SVL does not publish unverified claims, anonymous accusations, or speculation presented as fact.
  • When SVL publishes opinion or advocacy content, it is clearly framed as such and distinguished from factual reporting.

Interviews & Quotes

SVL publishes direct quotes from interview subjects based on recorded or written responses provided by the subject. Quotes are not altered in meaning. Minor edits for clarity or length may be made with the subject's knowledge. SVL does not fabricate or composite quotes.

Use of AI Tools

SVL uses artificial intelligence tools including ElevenLabs for audio narration of published articles. AI-generated audio is clearly identified as such on our platform. AI tools are used to enhance accessibility and engagement, not to generate or replace original reporting. All published editorial content is written, reported, and verified by SVL's human editorial team.

04 · Correction Policy

SVL is committed to accuracy. When errors occur, we correct them promptly, transparently, and without qualification.

How We Handle Corrections

  • When an error is identified, whether by a reader, a subject, or our own editorial team, SVL corrects the article as quickly as possible.
  • Corrections are made directly in the published article at svlatino.com.
  • A correction note is added to the article clearly identifying what was corrected and when.
  • When a reader or subject brings an error to SVL's attention and the correction is confirmed, SVL notifies that person directly that the correction has been made.
  • SVL does not silently remove or alter content to obscure errors. All significant corrections are documented in the article itself.

How to Report an Error

If you believe SVL has published inaccurate information, we want to hear from you.

Email: info@svlatino.com Website: svlatino.com

Please include the article title, the specific information you believe is inaccurate, and any supporting documentation you can provide. Our editorial team will review your report and respond promptly.

05 · Conflicts of Interest

SVL is committed to transparency about potential conflicts of interest. Our editorial team does not accept gifts, payments, or preferential treatment from story subjects or their representatives. SVL's editorial team discloses any personal relationships or affiliations with story subjects that could reasonably be perceived as a conflict of interest and recuses itself from editorial decisions where a conflict exists.

06 · Community Accountability

SVL was founded to serve the Latino community of the San Francisco Bay Area, California, and beyond. We take our accountability to that community seriously. We welcome feedback, criticism, and engagement from our readers, subjects, and community members. We are committed to listening, learning, and improving our journalism in service of the community we serve.
