Teresa Romero – Honoring a Champion for Farmworkers

This past week, UnidosUS recognized Teresa Romero, President of the United Farm Workers (UFW), with the Maclovio Barraza Award for Leadership at their annual conference.

Romero made history as the first Latina and the first immigrant woman to lead a national labor union in the United States. Under her leadership, the UFW continues its historic mission: ensuring farmworkers are treated with dignity and respect, while advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and protections for those who put food on America’s tables.

At Silicon Valley Latino, this recognition resonates deeply. In 2023, we proudly presented our documentary CAMPESINOS: America’s Unsung Heroes to members of Congress, shining a light on the vital contributions of farmworkers. Romero’s award underscores the urgency of amplifying their voices and stories.
