We have celebrated the builders. We have named the barriers. For Article 6 we wanted to hear from someone who has spent her career helping people break through them.
Jazmin Diaz is the Founder and CEO of Flourish Learning & Development — a professional development company delivering keynotes, workshops, and coaching experiences across the United States and México. She is Chief of Staff at Cloudflare, the author of two bilingual books, and a Silicon Valley Latino Cultura Ambassador. She is a first-generation professional who grew up partly in México, built her career from a school district admin role to the executive floors of Silicon Valley’s fastest growing companies, and is a mother of four.
Her business exists at the exact intersection of everything this series has been about — helping Latino professionals and entrepreneurs break free from the limiting beliefs that systems like these create and take full ownership of their growth.
She did not wait for an invitation. She built the door. Here is her story in her own words.

SVL: Tell us the story behind Flourish Learning & Development. What was the moment that made you decide to build your own company rather than climb someone else’s ladder?
Jazmin Diaz: Flourish Learning & Development was born from both lived experience and a calling to help others on their journey.
As a proud first-generation professional, with English as my second language, I’ve had to navigate unfamiliar systems, build confidence in spaces where I didn’t always see myself reflected, and learn how to advocate for my value along the way. Those experiences didn’t just shape my career. They shaped my purpose.
For decades, I built my career across public education and corporate America, learning, growing, and eventually stepping into executive leadership roles. But along the way, I kept seeing the same pattern, especially within our comunidad: incredibly talented individuals who were capable, driven, and hardworking, yet holding themselves back due to cultural nuances, self-doubt, lack of access, or simply not knowing how to navigate the systems around them.
The moment that shifted everything for me wasn’t a single event. It was a realization. One that resonated deeply because I, too, had once been stuck in that same pattern. Flourish was built to change that. To help individuals grow from within, challenge limiting beliefs, and take ownership of their personal and professional journey.

Because at the end of the day, growth does not happen by accident… it happens with intention.
SVL: You work at the intersection of corporate leadership and Latino community empowerment. What do you see in the room when you deliver a keynote or workshop to first-generation Latino professionals that keeps you doing this work?
Jazmin Diaz: When I step into a room, I don’t just see an audience. I see stories.
I see resilience. I see potential. I see individuals who are navigating spaces that weren’t always built with them in mind, yet they show up anyway.
What keeps me doing this work are the moments when something clicks. When someone shifts from a victim to victor mentality, when they realize they don’t have to wait for permission, when they begin to advocate for themselves and truly see their value. When they start to define success on their own terms, not by someone else’s standards.
That’s when the shift happens, from surviving to owning their path… and ultimately, to flourishing.
There’s a certain look, a shift in energy, a confidence that starts to build and you can feel it in the room. That’s the work. That’s the magic. That’s the impact, and that’s what keeps me going.

SVL: The Latino Business Gap series has documented four simultaneous doors closing on Latino entrepreneurs right now: federal lending, government contracting, venture capital, and the wage gap. As someone who coaches leaders through limiting beliefs and systemic barriers, what do you want Latino business owners to know about navigating this moment?
Jazmin Diaz: The reality is that there will always be obstacles and barriers. What’s changed is the intensity and the visibility of those challenges given the digital world we live in.
What I want Latino business owners to consider is this: Yes, the external environment matters, but so does how you show up within it. Circumstances are not a reason to shrink. This is the moment to get clear, get strategic, and stay grounded in your values and purpose.
It also requires a level of accountability. Taking ownership of your growth, your decisions, and how you choose to navigate these challenges. Because while we can’t control every external factor, we can control our mindset, our preparation, how we show up, and our willingness to keep moving forward.
That means:
Understanding your positioning.
Building strong networks and relationships.
Advocating for yourself and your business with confidence.
Continuing to invest in your growth, even when resources feel limited.
We cannot ignore the systems, but we also cannot allow them to define our ceiling. Because while doors may close, there are always opportunities to open new ones, together, en comunidad.
SVL: Flourish operates across the U.S. and México. How can our comunidad best support your work right now, and where can they find you, follow your journey, and bring you into their organizations?
Jazmin Diaz: Flourish operates with a simple but powerful mission: to help individuals and organizations grow from within.
Right now, one of the most meaningful ways our comunidad can support is by continuing to create and invest in spaces where growth, leadership, and personal development are prioritized alongside business success. SVL: You wrote Ignite Your Growth and Enciende tu Crecimiento, in English and Spanish. What is the one message from those books that every Latino entrepreneur needs to hear today?
Jazmin Diaz: If there’s one message I would want every Latino entrepreneur to carry with them, it’s this:
Your growth, happiness, and success are both your responsibility and your power.
We don’t always get to choose the systems we operate in, but we do get to choose how we respond, how we show up, and how we continue to build despite them. In both of my books the message is consistent: Growth starts from within. You have a choice, to operate from a victim mindset or step into a victor mentality.
Cuando cambias tu mentalidad, cambias tu trayectoria.
When you change your mindset, you change your trajectory.
You are not behind.
You are not limited by where you started.
And you are more capable than you’ve been led to believe.
The question is, are you willing to own it?
