Meet Omar Aguilar: SVL Cultura Ambassador

Before leaving Mexico for the United States, Omar's father gave him a piece of wisdom that would shape the next two decades of his life:

"You have a yellow lens — that's what you see today, because everything in Mexico looks yellow to you. Once you go there, everybody looks at things with a blue lens. Now you're going to go there, and you're going to meld the two. You're never going to see things blue. They're always going to look green to you — because you're looking at it from what you grew up with, which is yellow, and now from blue. But for you, it's always going to be green."

More than 20 years later, Omar says he's still melding, never forgetting what he learned growing up in Mexico, while learning more about American culture every day. Leaving wasn't easy. He missed the food, he missed his family. But he calls it one of the most enriching experiences of his life.
