SVL Advisory Board Member Joins Leaders in Denouncing Militarization of Immigration Enforcement

On Sunday, June 8th, SVL Advisory Board Member and Founder of ALAS, Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga, joined U.S. Congressman Sam Liccardo, State Senator Josh Becker, San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller, and several other Mayors in a press conference at Palo Alto City Hall to denounce the Trump administration’s deployment of the California National Guard to Los Angeles amid protests against ICE raids.Rep. Liccardo condemned the move as “ruthlessly and recklessly designed to push our nation toward authoritarianism,” while community leaders voiced deep concern over the escalating militarization targeting immigrant communities.
As Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga reminds us:
“We cannot remain silent. It’s a critical time in our country for us to stand together—to be there for all the community and those that are suffering so much at the unjust deportations that are happening—those of mothers, fathers, and even children. Our hearts are breaking, and peaceful protests have always been the foundation of our country. Now even that is at risk. At this time, we are counting on our political leaders to be there for all of us.”
SVL proudly stands with Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga and all those speaking out in defense of civil liberties, community safety, and immigrant rights.Read More: Share this and share your thoughts with us!#JuntosAdelante
